Trivia: In a TV interview, Charlie Sheen credited Keith David with saving his life. While shooting in an open-doored Huey gunship, the helicopter banked too hard and Sheen was thrown towards - and would have gone through - the open door. David grabbed him by the back and pulled him back in.
So, tell me what you think? Did you like Platoon? Would you have picked another movie as Best Picture? Why?

Like father, Like son. Martin Sheen's Vietnam movie Apocolypse Now was nominated for Best Picture but lost, Charlie Sheen's Vietnam movie won. Where as Apocolypse Now shows the decline into darkness of one soldier, Platoon shows it in a squad of soldiers. Sheen is the idealistic patriotic soldier when he gets to Vietnam, but leaves very much worse for the wear after getting caught between dueling sargents. This is my pick, basically because I didn't see any of the other ones.
Children of a Lesser God - A new speech teacher (William Hurt) falls in love with a student (Marlee Matlin, in an Oscar winning performance)...Hilarity Ensues
Hannah and Her Sisters - A Woody Allen movie, enough said.
The Mission - 18th century Spanish Jesuits try to protect a remote South American Indian tribe in danger of falling under the rule of pro-slavery Portugal. Whoo Hoo, bring it on!
A Room With A View - When a woman and and chaperone find themselves in Florence with rooms without views, fellow guests a gentleman and his son step in to remedy the situation.
Warning, Shameless Plug follows -->By the way, I went and saw Good Night, and Good Luck last night. It is one of the movies nominated for best picture this year. I am going to try and see all the movies that were nominated, including *shudder* Brokeback Mountain. Watch for my reviews the week before the Oscars. <----Shameless Plug ends
When I saw Good Night, and Good Luck about Edward R. Murrow and his fight against Senator McCarthy, I do believe I was the youngest patron in the theatre, by about 30 years.
I think I liked Platoon, although I don't really like Oliver Stone. Like Witness it's been so long since I've seen it who knows what I would think of it now.
Out of the list that was nominated that year, I'm saying Platoon was probably the best out of all for best picture. I loved Children of a Lesser God, but that's because I'm a chickypoo and war just isn't much of my thing. I did get a little annoyed with how William Hurt had to repeat everything he said though (maybe we should all learn sign language).
For some reason I have always wanted to learn sign language. I think it would be cool.
