Best Picture of 1994

Nominees:
Forrest Gump

Four Weddings and a Funeral
Pulp Fiction
Quiz Show
The Shawshank Redemption

Winner:
Forrest Gump

Story: The story follows the life of low I.Q. Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) and his meeting with the love of his life Jenny. The film chronicles his accidental experiences with some of the most important people and events in America from the late 1950's through the 1970's including a meeting with Elvis Presley, JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, fighting in Vietnam, etc. The problem is, he's too slow to realize the significance of his actions. Forrest becomes representative of the baby boomer generation having walked through life blindly. Hilarity ensues.

Trivia: All of the still photos of Forrest show him with his eyes closed.

So, tell me what you think? Did you like Forrest Gump? Would you have picked another movie as Best Picture? Why?

This is the second time I have seen four out of the five nominees. Tom Hanks got his second of back to back Oscars for playing Forrest. This movie is very good but...

Four Weddings and a Funeral - Comedy-drama about a group of British friends... the title says the rest...and so does this for me...starring Hugh Grant. Nope, won't watch it.

Pulp Fiction - The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. The movie that put Quentin Tarantino in the spotlight. I liked Reservoir Dogs better. It also relaunched John Travolta's career.

Quiz Show - Dick Goodwin discovers game shows are fixed: pretty boy WASP Charles Van Doren is fed answers so he beats geeky Jew Herbie Stempel. Ralph Fiennes fresh off Schidler's List the year before. John Turturro, as the geeky contestant that wasn't what the game show producers wanted. And Rob Morrow, remember him? From Northern Exposure. Now he is on Numbers.

And my favorite...The Shawshank Redemption. Andy Dufresne is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Set in the 1940's, the film shows how Andy, with the help of his friend Red, the prison entrepreneur, turns out to be a most unconventional prisoner. The gist of the story is to never lose hope. "Get busy livin', or get busy dying" Morgan Freeman's narration was just soothing, I don't know, something about it. I guess you can tell I loved this movie.

Forrest Gump is one of my all time favorite movies. I believe it totally deserved the win. "From that moment on, I was running." There were a lot of good movies in this year though. Shawshank Redemption was an excellent movie and comes in a very close second for me.

So, why am I the only one commenting? I guess it just means that I have way too much time on my hands. :o)

But I love it when you comment, my dear sister.

Sorry, I'm a slacker.

Three really good movies this year. I saw Quiz Show but wasn't impressed.

Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction might all be on my top ten list I had one.

Forrest Gump is one of my favorites as well, probably number three behind Jaws and Braveheart.

By the way, why does your date above the post say Wed February 1st? Am I that far behind?

I do the posts ahead of time and save them as drafts. When I actually post it, it puts the day I did the draft. You are the first to say anything.
