Trivia: The extras used for the battle scenes were mostly members of the F.C.A., the Irish version of the Territorial Army. As they were drawn from many different army companies, and the members of these are usually drawn from the same locality, local rivalry between such companies is common. Apparently, some of the battle scenes seen in the movie are far more realistic than you might imagine, with rival companies actually using the occasion to try the beat the tar out of each other.
So, tell me what you think? Did you like Braveheart? Would you have picked another movie as Best Picture? Why?

Mel Gibson in a Dress. Dustin Hoffman tried it in Toosie, but that didn't help him win Best Picture. I guess Mel looks better then Dustin. Okay, just kidding, Braveheart is a very good movie and rightly deserved the Best Picture Oscar.
Babe - a pig raised by sheepdogs, learns to herd sheep with a little help from Farmer Hoggett. Because baby pigs grow so fast, 48 pigs were used during filming for the role of Babe. So after the movie was filmed everybody went to dinner were they served ham sandwiches, (D'oh, that is just so wrong).
Il Postino (The Postman) - Simple Italian postman learns to love poetry while delivering mail to a famous poet; he uses this to woo local beauty Beatrice.
Sense and Sensibility - Rich Mr. Dashwood dies, leaving his second wife and her daughters poor by the rules of inheritance. Two daughters are the titular opposites.
Apollo 13 - My sentimental favorite. True story of the moon-bound mission that developed severe trouble and the men that rescued it with skill and dedication. The weightlessness was filmed on NASA's KC-135 (called the Vomit Comet). The plain is their microgravity trainer. Each weightless section lasted about 30 seconds at a time.
The only one I didn't see was the Postman.
Babe - I was suprised how good this movie was. "That'll do pig, that'll do."
Apollo 13 - Great movie. I like pretty much anything Tom Hanks is in. My only complaint..."Houston, We Have A Problem" is used for just about anything and everything about Houston in headlines and signs at sporting events.
Sense & Sensibility - Kara's alltime favorite movie. When we worked at the movie theater in Lubbock her shift was over abour 4 hours before mine, so we went and watched this movie. She liked it so much she came out, told me how good it was and went back into the theater and watched it again.
Braveheart - Next to Jaws, my alltime favorite movie.
I agree with "Houston, we have a problem." A great quote that has become an overused cliche. A shame really.
Braveheart was good and all that and yes we got to see gorgeous Mel's legs, but it's not one of my favorites. I do believe it deserved the win though. And, it's very cool that Mel won for Best Director on it. Out of all these movies, I'm a little embarrased to say that Babe is my favorite. I'm just a sucker for the cute underdog....or pig in this matter :o) And Mick stole my quote.
Speaking of movie lines, James Cromwell glanced over the script of Babe to see how many lines he had, which wasn't very much, so he agreed to do the movie thinking it would be a quick part for him not know that he would be on screne more in this movie than any other he has been in.
