Nominees:
The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
Ray
Sideways
Winner:
Million Dollar Baby
Story: Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank), a poor thirty-one years old waiter from the very lower classes and with a dysfunctional family, decides to make a difference through boxing. She convinces the experienced hardened boxing trainer Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) to coach her and be her manager, with the support of his old partner Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris (Morgan Freeman), who sees her potential as a boxer. Frankie has a problem of relationship with his daughter, and practically adopts Maggie along her career. Hilary ensues.
Trivia: Sandra Bullock was the first actress attached to play Maggie, and she wanted to pursue Shekhar Kapur as a director. By the time a studio expressed an interest in the project, her commitment to Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005) prevented her from doing the film.
So, tell me what you think? Did you like Million Dollar Baby? Would you have picked another movie as Best Picture? Why?

Million Dollar Baby was good, but man was it depressing. You think it is going to be this heartwarming story about a girl that overcomes the odds and BAM, a left hook knocks you out.
The Aviator - A biopic depicting the early years of legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes' career, from the late 1920s to the mid-1940s.
Ray - The life and career of the legendary popular music pianist, Ray Charles. Made more compelling because of the death of Ray Charles who was aliving during the filming.
Sideways - Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment, embark on a week long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle. I have not seen this movie yet, but I hear it was really good.
Finding Neverland - The movie details the experiences of "Peter Pan" author J.M. Barrie, which lead him to write the children's classic. He got to know four children who have no father. Drawing from his time with the kids, he writes a story about children who don't want to grow up. I just watched this movie and it was very good. I would have to say that I like this movie better then Million Dollar Baby. Kate Winslet is a babe. Kim will probably like this movie, Johnny Depp is very good as J.M. Barrie.
By The Way, by sure to stop by next week, when I will post every day leading up to the Oscars on March 5th. I will go over every Best Picture Nominee (alphabetically, I watched all of them this year) and give my picks. Sunday - Trivia Sunday, Monday - Brokeback Mountain, Tuesday - Capote, Wednesday - Crash, Thursday - Good Night, and Good Luck, Friday - Munich, Saturday - My Picks.
The only one I didn't see was Ray.
Million Dollar Baby was a little disapointing to me, especially after seeing it win the best picture. I like Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman but they really are just playing the same old men from other movies, except Clint Eastwood has an almost hard to listen to voice in this one.
I saw Finding Neverland on the plane to London. Kate Winslet alot, but I would picked another of her movies in 2005 (or was it 2004?) over this one: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Aviator was good, but Leonardo DiCaprio looks like he's 13 to me, so it was hard to believe him as an older Howard Hughes.
Of all these, I might have picked Sideways as the best picture. It might be one of those "you either like it or hate it" movies, but I usually like the small quirky movies, which is probably why I liked Eternal Sunshine so much.
Well, this year is a little hard for me to pick because I don't think any of them stand out much among the others. Million Dollar Baby was a good movie and Will's right, bam, you get knocked out at the end. I like Hillary Swank (she was excellent in Boys Don't Cry).
I didn't see the Aviator.
In Ray I still can't believe Jamie Fox can sing and play the piano like he did. He was amazing in this movie. But as a movie all around, it's not that outstanding.
Sideways was a pretty weird movie. Quirky, like Mick said. I'm kind of surprised that it got nominated.
And Finding Neverland? Well, it was just ok for me again as with the others, it just didn't stand out all that much. It had some very nice dreamy scenes. I loved that when the kids and Johnny were acting out scenes the movie would switch back and forth between real and imaginary. And, of course, any movie that I get to look at Johnny Depp is a great movie to me.
Will's right. We're all getting to know each other's likes and dislikes. And we're thousands of miles away! Crazy, I tell ya....Crazy!
