Did you know that a lot of Willy Wonka's (Gene Wilder) dialog consists of literary quotations? All of the numerous literary references were added for one reason or another by David Seltzer (I) when he re-wrote the screenplay.
Some examples:
"All I ask is a tall ship and a star to sail her by" from the John Masefield poem "Sea Fever"
"We are the music-makers..." from Arthur O'Shaughnessy's "Ode"
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever" from John Keats's "Endymion: A Poetic Romance"
"So shines a good deed... " from Shakespeare's "Merchant of Venice."
"Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker" from a poem entitled "Reflections on Ice Breaking" by Ogden Nash.
"The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last" is a quote from Oscar Wilde's play, "The Importance of Being Earnest."

Have you seen the new Willy Wonka with Johnny Dep in it? I'm sure it's not as good as the original movie but I adore Johnny so I'll see it of course.
It's not a musical. It follows the book more closely. I think it will be good because of Depp's ability to play wierd characters
Did I mention that I adore Johnny Dep. Oh yeah, I did.
I am gonna try to go to Charlie and the Choclate Factory when it shows in IMAX. We have a commercial IMAX theater here so I am pretty sure they will show it.
Whose Johnny Depp? What has he doen that I would know? (I guess my age is showing)
Hee Hee Anut Lynn doesn't know Johnny Depp.
Oh Anut Lynn, shame on you.
Let's see there's, Edward Scissorhands, Benny and Joon, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, The Astronaut's Wife, Don Juan DeMarco, Blow, Finding Neverland, Secret Window, Pirates of Caribbean. Oh, I could go on and on but these are my favorites. Oh yeah, and the reason why we're commenting on this blog Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gotta drool over him.
Don't bother, I went down and gave her the list. All I got was "Didn't see it, didn't see it, didn't see it..." see a trend there?
Old(er) people are weird.
Mamma Mia, what does she do all day, save children or something? Not even Pirates of the Caribbean?
