Great Great Great Great Grandfather

Today I met my great great great great grandfather. His name was Jackson Fitzgerald and he was born in 1795. Can you imagine that? Two hundred and ten years ago! He was a Citizen of the Republic of Texas, which means he lived in Texas before it became a state in the United States in 1846. He was buried just outside of San Augustine, Texas. That is 30 miles east of Nacogdoches deep in east Texas.

San Augustine is the childhood home of my great grandmother. I had never been there. I took the day off and went on a trip with my parents and my brother's family. We visited many ancestors across east Texas and saw the land my great grandmother grew up on. It brings into prospective where your family is actually from.

It was a good day.

That's pretty cool about the Republic of Texas. I'm proud of my roots and know you all are too. I visited the old homestead that Great Granny grew up in and it was really cool. Is the house still there?

No, the current owner and distant relative moved the house and built on to it, even though it had a Texas Historic Medallion on it. His side of the family is thrilled, our side, not so much.
