You know, movies never cease to amaze me. Yesterday I watched to movies that I know were good, they were both best picture winners, but I wasn't sure about.
The first was an old movie, Roman Holiday. I really like Audrey Hepburn, I like Gregory Peck, I know William Wyler was a great director, heck, I even like Eddy Arnold, he sings real good, but I wasn't for sure on the movie. For those of you who don't know, Roman Holiday is about a Princess (Hepburn) who sneaks out of the palace and spends the day with newsman Joe Bradley (Peck) who is trying to get a story. He knows she is the Princess but she doesn't know he is a newsman. Eddie Albert plays the photographer. The movie marks the American movie debut of Hepburn and she won an Oscar for it.
The second movie was Million Dollar Baby. I had heard that this movie has a very depressing ending. It did, but the rest of the movie was great. Clint Eastwood plays the grizzled old guy with the gravelly voice, like he has in the last several movies he has been in. Morgan Freeman plays the wise sage/narrator who observes the happening around him and becomes the moral conscience of the movie like the characters he has played in just about every movie he has been in. The thing is, they both do it so well that is doesn't get old. Hilary Swank is the 33 year old boxer trying to get Eastwood to train her. This is a very good movie and worthy of the Oscar. Swank and Freeman also won Oscars with Eastwood getting the Oscar for direction.
So I guess I should not judge the movie by it's trailer. Is there a movie you were not sure you wanted to watch only to end up loving it?

I just watched Million Dollar Baby and really liked it. Hillary Swank is a great actress and of course Morgan Freeman also. I could do without Clint Eastwood though but he was allright here. Sometimes you can just have too much of the gruf old man.
The movie I was unsure about but and absolutely love now is Garden State. I would stroll along the video store and pass this one buy everytime telling myself "I should get that because I like Natalie Portman but it lookes like a teenage love story". Well, it's a grown up movie that keeps you going in the movie with funny lines and a lot of moments were you say "Oh yeah, that's why they did that" and I love it. I bought the sound track and the movie.
