For the role of Private Gomer Pyle in the film Full Metal Jacket, this actor gained 70 pounds, eclipsing the World Record for Most Weight Gained for a Movie held by Robert De Niro who had gained over 60 for his role in Raging Bull.
He played characters with the same name, "Bill Newman," in two separate movies, JFK and Malcolm X.

I just happen to know who Detective Robert Goren is because it's my favorite L&O series, but I didn't know he was in those movies. However, I'll let the game go on.
He was also in Men In Black, Ed Wood, Mystic Pizza, The Cell, and the Salton Sea among others. And no, his name is not a "household name." And I agree with Boots, he is my favorite L&O character.
I can picture the guy, especially after you mentioned his other movies. Everytime we see him, we say that's the Mystic Pizza guy or the roach in Men and Black. But I couldn't tell you his name unless I looked it up. He did a good job in Full Metal Jacket too. Eric could probably name him. He's good at that.
