Welcome to my 100th post! The World Series starts tonight and a team from Texas is in it. For the first time ever the largest state in the union (according to a Fox broadcaster during the NLCS, who shall remain nameless, because I don't know his name) is represented in the big dance.
Houston is all a buzz with excitement. I will admit that baseball is not my favorite sport, I am a football man, but I have followed that Astros since moving to Houston back before the 1990 season. Craig Biggio had been with the team for two years by that time. Jeff Bagwell would join the team a year later and become the rookie of the year. In these times of free agency and playing for the highest bidder (Carlos Beltran, who is at home watching the series on his 90 inch plasma high definition television. Hey, he can afford it [side note: when I ran spell check, Beltran came up as being spelled wrong, the computer's suggestion? Paltriness. kind of says it all doesn't it?]) it is amazing to see two superstars stay with a team for so long.
So good luck Astros, and good luck Biggio and Bagwell, the first two killer B's. Thank you for some amazing memories. Thank you Roger Clemens for coming to play for your hometown team. Thank you Roy O for stopping the bleeding by shutting down the Cardinals momentum. Thank you Fat Elvis (Lance Berkman) for the Grandslam in Game 4 of the ALDS. Thank you Brad Ausmus and Chris Burke for your homers in the 18 inning game. Thank you Astros*, for a year to remember. Now go beat the crap out of the Sox.
*This thank you is from JimBob Jumpback from KILT's Hudson and Harrigan show. You will need Real Audio to play this.
Welcome, Foolish Mortals!
