Okay, I guess y'all need a hint. This actor also played a cop on the right coast and a lawyer on the left coast, both on television.

The three main televison characters he has played have last names that start with S (Sifuentes, Simone, S_____). <---Hint. In the movies, he is not a main character, but he plays a major part in the 28 year old story. <---Hint.
I will reserve the last biggest hint until tomorrow if nobody gets it.
Okay, I have to give Dad credit. At 7 O'Clock, he sent me an email saying he was having trouble posting an answer to my blog. He was able to correctly name the actor as Jimmy Smits, but did not include in his email the names of the characters, so that part is still active.
ok, I had a feeling he was going to be a senator in Star Wars. I can't think of his name, but he adopts princess leia.
Yeah, in Episodes 2 and 3 Jimmy Smits plays Senator Bail Organa from Alderaan, who adopts Leia and helps Yoda escape while he is at it. Oh and he gives C-3PO and R2D2 to Captain Antilles and has C-3PO's memory erased (See Episode 4).
On the West Wing, he plays Democratic Congressman Matthew Santos from Texas
Oh, by the way, the other shows he was on were, L.A. Law where he played Victor Sifuentes, and N.Y.P.D. Blue where he played Detective Bobby Simone
I was totally out of that one wasn't I.
Well it was a naturally tricky question because when you hear senator, you think US Congress, not Galactic Republic. By the way, that was going to be my biggest hint, "Who said it was an American Senator?"
