All of the Best Picture Nominees’ themes can be correlated to modern concerns:
Brokeback Mountain – Unrequited/forbidden love. A love story between two men whose relationship is kept secret because of societal disapproval.
Capote – Media manipulation. Truman Capote manipulates those around him to get the story but in the end knows that the murders he has championed have to die to finish his novel.
Crash – Racial tensions. A story of interweaving characters who crash together through stereotypes and misconceptions.
Good Night, And Good Luck – Using a misguided concept of patriotism to your own means. McCarthyism at its height.
Munich – Terrorism and retaliation. Israel’s response to the terror killings at Munich. All are good movies, but if I had to choose one to be my winner (why else would you be reading this) I would have to choose…Drum roll please…Crash. I guess me and my fellow siblings have similar tastes. That is three for three in the sibling department, and unlike them, I have seen the other four.
There is no doubt about it. When I had finished watching all five movies, I sat down and thought, “Okay, which one is the best?” Crash was my immediate answer.
As for the rest of my picks:
Best Actor – Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote
Best Actress – Reese Witherspoon, Walk The Line
Best Supporting Actor – Paul Giamatti, Cinderella Man
Best Supporting Actress – Rachel Weisz, The Constant Gardener
Best Achievement in Directing – Paul Haggis, Crash
Best Original Screenplay – Crash
Best Adapted Screenplay – Brokeback Mountain (I can’t believe I picked it)
So who would you pick?

sounds good to me...now lets see how close you were!
To me too. I think it's going to be a close call between Reese Witherspoon and Falicity Huffman though. I believe that Falicity will win it though because of all that she had to go through to play the part. I haven't seen that one either though.
Have either of you seen Rent? I bought the darn movie because I loved it so. The boys and I sing all the songs. I can't believe it wasn't nominated for anything. It's a great movie. If Chicago can win, why not Rent?
I haven't seen rent, but with that glowing endorsement, I will have to.
