Trivia Monday: Overlooked

All of these actors have something in common. All were in the year's Best Picture winner, all were nominated in their respective acting catagories, all put in very powerful performances, all were overlooked by the Academy as if they were...invisible (okay, I couldn't help it).

Three Part Question: Name the actor, the movie, and the actor that actually won the oscar.

Kim has been bugging me about putting in an invisible trivia question (;-), so here it is. The pictures came from filmwise.com, which is a pretty cool website.

Is one the "Hollow Man" with Kevin Bacon?

Will said...

That's actually pretty funny, but I don't think Hollow Man could ever but confused with a best picture. Although each actor in this question has a Bacon Number of at least two, with one having a Bacon Number of one.

Is C from My Fair Lady?

Will said...

Nope, same general time frame though

C: sound of music? Julie Andrews and ...... don't know.

Is B the kid from the Sixth Sense?

Will said...

C is the Sound of Music, with Julie Andrews so you got 2/3 right.

If you have been reading my blog, you will know that the Sixth Sense didn't win the Best Picture. (Just messing with you).

so...
A. no answer yet
B. Not the Sixth Sense
C. 2/3 answered
D. no answer yet
E. no answer yet

This could take a while.

Yes, this could take awhile.

Is D from Out of Africa?

Will said...

D is indeed Out Of Africa

1/3 correct

in 1965, julie christie won for "darling" beating julie andrews in "the sound of music"

my guess for "e" is peter o'toole in "lawrence of arabia" who actually lost the oscar to gregory peckory (yeah, i know) in "to kill a mockingbird"

meryl streep lost for "out of africa" to angelica huston in "prizzi's honor"

my guess for "a" is "midnight cowboy." jon voight lost to john wayne in "rooster cogburn."

for "b" i don't even have a guess.

Okay, lets see.

A. Midnight Cowboy, Jon Voight (and Dustin Hoffman) lost to John Wayne, but not for Roster Cogburn, for True Grit (but since I didn't ask for the movie of the winning actor, I am only taking off 10 style points). 3/3.

B. All we know is that it isn't the Sixth Sense. 0/3.

C. The Sound of Music, Julie Andrews lost to Julie Christie in Darling. 3/3.

D. Out OF Africa, Meryl Streep lost to Angelica Houston? oh so close yet so far away at the same time even. 2/3.

E. Lawrence of Arabia, Peter O'Toole lost to Gregory Peck in Tequila Mockingbird (great drink by the way). 3/3.

So we are only missing B. and one element of D.

Anonymous said...

ok, ok. meryl streep lost to geraldine page for "the trip to bountiful"

so, give us a hint for B.

ak

Anonymous said...

never mind the hint. it came to me on a flaming pie and said "kramer vs. kramer." justin henry lost to melvyn douglas for "being there."

where's my damn prize?

ak

D. Meryl Streep lost to Geraldine Page in the Trip To Bountiful (Angelica Houston won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar that year. 3/3.

B. Kramer vs. Kramer, Justin Henry (at age 8, the youngest nominee for a competative award in Academy history) lost to Melvyn Douglas (Whom I have never heard of) in Being There. 3/3.

See, now Kim is gonna be mad at me because she didn't get to answer anything, although I did post it last night so she had her chance.

Oh, and Anonymous Ken, if you give me back that fifty bucks you borrowed from me, I might think about getting you a prize.

By The Way, Meryl Streep has the Bacon Number of one, She was in The River Wild with Kevin "Our Man" Bacon.

Justin Henry was in Kramer vs. Kramer with Meryl Streep (see above) for a Bacon Number of two.

Peter O'Toole was in How To Steal A Million with Eli Wallach, who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon for a Bacon Number of two.

Julie Andrews was in Shrek 2 with John Cleese who was in the Big Picture with Kevin Bacon for a Bacon Number of two.

Jon Voight was in Pearl Harbor with Alec Baldwin who was in She's Having a Baby with Our Man Bacon for a Bacon Number of two.

Man, did I miss out on this one or what? We went on a day tour yesterday and then the boys were all home which means I don't really get on and blog much when they are. I'm back at blogging this morning. I believe everyone has the hint that you post early for my sake. Oh, whoa is me. :o) Great trivia question!!!
