Top 250 Challenge: 217

Trainspotting (1996)
Number 183 on IMDb's Top 250

A wild, freeform, Rabelaisian trip through the darkest recesses of Edinburgh low-life, focusing on Mark Renton and his attempt to give up his heroin habit, and how the latter affects his relationship with family and friends: Sean Connery wannabe Sick Boy, dimbulb Spud, psycho Begbie, 14-year-old girlfriend Diane, and clean-cut athlete Tommy, who's never touched drugs but can't help being curious about them...hilarity ensues.

Trivia: For its American release, the first 20 minutes had to be re-dubbed to make the Scottish accents more intelligible. Jonny Lee Miller's character, Sick Boy, is obsessed with James Bond trivia. Miller is the grandson of Bernard Lee, who played "M" in the Bond series until 1979. Created much controversy when it was released in the USA for its content. Senator Bob Dole charged the film with glorifying drug use, but later admitted he hadn't seen the film.

Well, they do glorify drug use to an extent. Although Fenton does seem to get into trouble a lot because of drugs. Over all it was a good film. There was a point that it got to me though. A baby does from neglect because his mother was a drug addict, their response? Another hit. As most of you know, I work in the legal division of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and this hit a little to close to home. The only redemption is that Fenton has a nightmare/hallucination about it later in the film.

Up Next: Bonnie and Clyde

I had a hard time watching this movie when I first saw it about 10 years ago. The only thing I really remember is the scene you talked about.
