Mulholland Falls (1996)

The four members (Nick Nolte, Chazz Palminteri, Michael Madson, and Chris Penn) of the infamous Hat Squad, a 1940's special anti-gangster police squad in Los Angeles, are big, tough, no-nonsense cops who don't hesitate to break the law, if it suits their purposes. When a local woman (Jennifer Connelly) is murdered, their investigation turns up the fact that she had been romantically linked to several prominent men and had secret films taken of her liaisons. Since one of those men is the powerful U.S. Army General (John Malkovich) at the head of the then-new Atomic Energy Commission and another is the (married) leader of the Hat Squad, complications ensue, not to mention hilarity. The FBI even gets involved in an attempted cover-up.

Trivia: Ummm...Gee, there doesn't seem to be much trivia on the net about this film. William Peterson gets thrown down 'Mulholland Falls' at the first of the movie. Rob Lowe plays a hoodlum. Ummm...Oh yeah, Jennifer Connelly is uberhot!

Well, Thanks Impman, when I reviewed Mulholland Dr. Impman mentioned Jennifer Connelly. She isn't actually in Mulholland Dr., but she is in Mulholland Falls, and oh boy is she in Mulholland Falls. Can you tell I have a crush on the lovely Ms. Connelly? I have yet to see a movie she is in that I haven't liked. Some of the notable movies she has been in are Requiem For A Dream, Once Upon A Time In America, The Rocketeer, Dark City, A Beautiful Mind, and House Of Sand And Fog. And she is my age! Pant, pant, pant.

Oh, the movie. okay. Nick Nolte is pretty good as the leader of the Hat Squad. Chazz Palminteri is good as the loyal sidekick/partner. John Malkovich is always creepy whenever he hits the screen. Andrew McCarthy is awesome as Connelly's gay best friend. The rest of the cast includes Michael Madson, Chris Penn, Treat Williams, Melanie Griffith, and they even throw in a Baldwin brother for good measure (okay, it's Daniel Baldwin, but a minor Baldwin brother is still a Baldwin brother). All in all a very good film. Did I mention Jennifer Connelly is in it?

I salivate at the very mention of the words Jennifer Connelly.

Is it right that she was only about 18 when she appeared topless in the film The Hot Spot?

She was born in December of 1970 and the HotSpot came out in 1990 so she would have been 19 when the movie came out, but it was probably filmed before that so probably. I haven't seen this one so I guess I will have to get it now. :-)
