Impman asks...

If you could star in a remake of a film that kept faithful to the original, what film would it be, and who would you have as your leading lady?

Normally I don't like remakes but in the interest of entertainment (partly mine) I thought about it and it intrigued me so I decided to post about it instead of just commenting, and I thought I would expand it a little and pick a few from different genres (that way I can have a couple of leading ladies, my momma didn't raise no dummy)

So here goes:

Screwball Comedy: It Happened One Night (originally with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert) Rebellious socialite Ellie Andrews (Natalie Portman) marries King Wesley but her wealthy father has it annulled. Tired of her father's control, she runs away by diving off the family yacht in Miami and heading for New York. On the bus she meets street-smart reporter Peter Warne (me) and hilarity ensues. They end up traveling together as Warne hopes to get a great story, and Ellie needs his worldly help.

Film Noir: Double Indemnity (originally with Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck) Insurance agent Walter Neff (me) plots with attractive Phyllis Dietrichson (Jennifer Connelly) to murder her husband. After the husband has been tricked into signing a double indemnity accident policy, they kill him to make it look like an accident. Hilarity ensues when Insurance investigator Barton Keyes doesn't believe it was an accident and pursues the case, linking Phyllis with everyone but his friend, Walter. Neff, meanwhile, is told by Dietrichson's daughter from a previous marriage that she believes that Phyllis killed her mother in order to marry her father. Neff suspects Phyllis of a double cross and he believes she has abandoned him for the younger man.

Adventure: The African Queen (Orginally Humphrey Bogart and Kathrine Hepburn) At the start of World War 1, Charlie Allnut (me) is using his old steamer, The African Queen, to ferry supplies to villages in East Africa. When the Rev. Samuel Sayer dies, Charlie agrees to take Sayers' sister, Rose (Sandra Bullock), back to civilization. taking on the Germans at the same time. Hilarity ensues.

Comedy: Breakfast At Tiffany's (originally George Peppard and Audrey Hepburn) Struggling writer Paul Varjak (me) moves into a New York apartment building and becomes intrigued by his pretty, quirky neighbor Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn, remember, my momma didn't raise no dummy). Holly's lifestyle confuses and fascinates Paul; in public she flits through parties with a sexy, sophisticated air, but when they're alone she changes into a sweetly vulnerable bundle of neuroses. Hilarity ensues.

Well, that is it for now but that was fun so I might have to recast myself in to some other movies later.

That was truely inspired Will! Brilliant posting!

And may I say a VERY good choice of clasics, apart from Sandra Bullock, (I would have Denise Richards) I would have to agree totaly with your choice of leading ladies!
Nice One Will and Thank-You

I have to find a movie I can get Richards in. I picked Bullock because I think she would be better at playing the straight laced missionary that Hepburn played (keeping true to the original and all).

Fair comment, and I have to agree with you after that!

Must say there is NO other choice for Hepburn!

I would also like to find one that would fit Reese Witherspoon.

Speaking of keeping true to the original, I thought Sandra Bullock was out of character for the part. Hepburn was much older, right? I looked it up and Katharine Hepburn was 44 when she made African Queen. Sandra Bullock will be 43 in July. See what I mean?

Hepburn was 44? Wow, she looked older. Nothing against Hepburn but Bullock's 43 is miles away from Hepburn's 44. Denise Richards, on the other hand, is only 36 (My age) but then I have always had a soft spot for older women.

How about Reese Witherspoon in Katherine Hepburns role in Bringing up Baby?

That could work. I was wondering if she would fit into the Audrey Hepburn role in Roman Holiday.
