In 1890’s England young Ernest P. Worrell (Jim Varney) is tired of his life, he urns for the exciting life of his neighbor Vern (Jim Varney). Ernest is in love with Gwendolyn Fairfax (Francis O’Conner) and pretends to be Vern to win her affection. Meanwhile, Vern pretends to be Ernest to garner favor with Cecily (Reese Witherspoon) in order to steal her family’s money. Hilarity ensues as Ernest and Gwendolyn return from camp and suddenly there are too many Ernests. Will Ernest discover the plot in time to foil Vern’s nefarious plans? Will Vern get away with the family’s fortune? Will Reese ever say yes to Will? Will you tune in next time? Will I ever figure out a way to end this plot summary?
Trivia: Jim Varney, who died six years earlier, was inserted into all the scenes by Industrial Light and Magic, He did, however, record his own lines. Rumors erupted early in production concerning Reese Witherspoon and novice director William Watson. Witherspoon would later divorce her long time husband Ryan Phillippe for a relationship with Watson. Industry insiders claim that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences were poised to nominated director William Watson for the 2007 Best Director Oscar, and most said he was the front runner, but that he declined saying, “I think Scorsese deserves a chance this year.”
This is probably the funniest, most amazing movie I have seen this year. It is just incredible. I highly recommend this to everyone. Jim Varney is hilarious. Francis O'Conner is just adorable. And don't get me started on Reese Witherspoon. You should watch this movie!
