After Elizabeth (Keira Knightly), Will (Orlando Bloom), and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) rescue Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from the world beyond the living, they must face their foes, Davey Jones (Bill Nighy) and Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander). Beckett, now with control of Jones' heart, forms a dark alliance with him in order to rule the seas and wipe out the last of the Pirates. Hilarity ensues when Jack, Barbossa, Will, Elizabeth, Tia Delma, and crew must call the Pirate Lords from the four corners of the globe, including the infamous Sao Feng (Chow-Yun Fat), to a gathering to convince them to make their final stand against Beckett, Jones, Norrington, the Flying Dutchman, and the entire East India Trading Company. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
Trivia: So locations wouldn't have to be revisited by the crew, some scenes were filmed during the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The crew built a sixty foot replica of the front half of the Black Pearl on the back of a semi trailer in the salt flats of Utah for a shoot with the Shadow of the Pearl. The shoot was scheduled for 19 days, it took 4. The cast and crew filmed off of the coast of Southern California in the South Bay Area around the last week of August 2006. The Black Pearl could be seen sailing to and from port from the Palos Verdes Estates and Redondo Beach pier. The stars of the film would take time off from shooting to meet fans and sign autographs.
Well, Jack is back and so is the crew. Yes, there are some soft points and there is a load of information to process. Some characters that have seen a lot of marketting don't seem to have a major role in the film and are a bit inconsequential and some characters leave the story and it would have benefited from a return. And it is long at 2 hours and 47 minutes. But it is one hell of a thrill ride, especially the last thirty minutes (although there was a part that was disappointing). The special effect were spectacular (for example...The Black Pearl sails through a dessert). The problem with the script is the too much of a good thing syndrome. It was just sensory overload. The writers created a rich pirate world mythology and they want to show it to you. But overall I loved it. Oh, and I almost forgot, it has singing pirates!
Welcome, Foolish Mortals!

YO HO HO Will! Did you queue overnight to watch it?? I may have to go and see it today (Friday) as I am in UTAH, not far from Park town or whatever it's called!
But nearly 3 hours?? Critics have panned it again, which is great, they did the same with POTC 1, and look what happened after that!
Actually it was released in the U.S. (and other places I think) Thursday night at 8 p.m. I wasn't planning on seeing it so soon but I couldn't resist. The theater I saw it in had about 10 showings of it, all after 8 (on started at 12:40 a.m. (geez, you have to be crazy [or young] to see a 3 hour movie after midnight). The only movie I ever saw at a midnight showing opening day was Jurassic Park.
I can't wait until this comes here. I think it'll open next weekend. When they are big blockbusters like Spiderman, Shrek and Pirates, we get them a lot sooner than the other movies. I'll be one of those in the first showing here.
The only movie I've seen at midnight was Pink Floyds "The Wall" when I was at Texas Tech.
I foregot to say Hmmmm, Johnny Depp.
I want that movie poster!!!! (hehehe, just like a teenager).
I was wrong....it came to our theater this weekend. Both shows tonight were sold out to our little community. I took the boys to see it tonight and I loved it. You're right, it's a little slow getting the story going and you definitely have to know what happened in the first two to get most of it. But, connecting them together, I thought it made a great storyline. The special affects were all amazing. I was quit upset about the ending though and a little overacting was being had by all, but....Johnny Depp....hmmmm (even in dirty pirate make-up.) My favorite scene....the dried up ocean with Jack Sparrow and the rock.
