Iris (Kate Winslet), a journalist from Surrey, England, and Amanda (Cameron Diaz), a movie trailer editor from Los Angeles, have a problem, men. What they need is a holiday from their lives and the troubles that come from relationships, so, they switch houses for two weeks. But hilarity ensues when things don't go quite as planned when Iris' brother Graham (Jude Law) meets Amanda and Miles, a movie composer, bumps into Iris. Can two weeks change your life?
Trivia: This film was written specifically with actors Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black in mind. The interior sets for Amanda's house were built on a sound stage and cost approximately $1 million, without exterior walls, a roof, plumbing, heating and electricity. Dustin Hoffman said that his cameo in the film was not scripted and unplanned. He was driving by the Blockbuster shown in the film and saw all of the cameras and equipment so he decided to stop in and see what was happening. Because he knew director Nancy Meyers, they worked up a scene which ultimately made the final cut.
Pure unadulterated fluff, but that is what makes it fun. It is just a nice sit down lighthearted comedy. It is really two stories in one so I will take them one at a time. Cameron Diaz/Jude Law. Most reviews say this is the weakest of the two couples, but I don't, um...well, it is the weakest, but it is a lot better then I was expecting. I liked the relationship. It was heartwarming. Diaz and Law work well together. Kate Winslet/Jack Black. I will admit that I have a soft spot for Kate Winslet but who know Jack Black could be so charming. But, there is a third relationship in this movie. Kate Winslet/Eli Wallach. Wallach plays an aging Screenwriter who is a neighbor of Amanda's that Iris meets on her first day in LA. These two really meshed. So, I liked it a little more then I thought I would.

Yes, a nice little movie with not too much to think about by the viewer. I liked the relationship between Kate and Eli the most.
